The Cincinnati Reds have been relatively mediocre, something most of us diehard fans have come to recognize and understand all to well around this time of year when football is restarting and we’re looking to the next season. But, this year, it’s a little different. Kind of. It just depends where your mind is. Subscribe to our Newsletter using the popup or form below! We’d love to send you the news.

Reds Postseason Hopes Still Alive
But they’re barely breathin’. Alright, that’s enough, I know, I know. Nati Dad jokes. The Reds have actually doubled their postseason chances, per Fangraphs, but still remain extremely low, so don’t get too excited. They ‘doubled’ due to them beating the Mets in 2 of 3. Perhaps what’s more infuriating, is the fact that they keep shooting themselves in the foot every time they have a chance to make up ground, like leaving the bases loaded in game 1, or losing the game 1 in San Diego when the Mets lost.

San Francisco Giants On Their Tail
The Giants of San Francisco are right on their tail, completely catching them, and actually winning the games they have to. They are 13-3 in their last 16 games dating back to late August, and now are in a better position than the Reds in the standings. They’re only 2 out from the Mets.
The issue here furtherly, is the fact that the Reds do not own the tiebreaker over the Giants currently, and they aren’t close. They went 3-3 against them this year, and the Giants are better in their own division than the Reds are in theirs, which would give them the tiebreaker. They (Giants) DO still have division games left, as do the Reds, however, so there’s a possibility for the Reds to take that tiebreaker back.
New York Mets Imploding
The big dollar New York Mets have completely imploded down the stretch, yet still hold the wildcard position as it stands today. Not that it means much, but the Mets and Reds currently have a top 10 ‘toughest schedule remaining’ in MLB per Tankathon, and San Francisco does not. Both teams, Mets and Reds, will be relying on the Dodgers to help them maintain their status in the race.
The Giants will play the Dodgers 7 more times on the year, but they have 3 more with the Rockies as well, so whatever games they don’t win in the Dodgers series, can be made up playing the horrendous Colorado Rockies.
St. Louis Cardinals Right There, Too…
The knowingly tanking St. Louis Cardinals are right in this thing, too. Shocker, eh? The Devil’s magic. Obviously, the odds aren’t great for them, they have the toughest strength of schedule remaining, but the majority of the teams they play are in postseason positions and ahead of them. If they can manage to beat these teams and win out, they’ll make it.
Conclusion
The Cincinnati Reds need a lot of help to make the 2025 MLB Playoffs, but there’s still a chance, and they just have to keep winning to give themselves that chance. I don’t believe they’ll make it, in fact, I know they won’t, no one in that clubhouse genuinely believes they will either. They’ve had zero runs of clean baseball, and they have a lot of tough opponents coming up.
Even their ‘easy’ labeled opponents, the Athletics, Pittsburgh Pirates, and the St. Louis Cardinals — none of these are easy teams, and they ALWAYS play the Reds tough and usually are the spoilers of a season. The Pirates have been playing good baseball, too. Don’t get your hopes up kid, you’re a Reds fan after all.
