Austin Hays made his name known throughout Reds country today! Hays had a stellar day at the plate going 3-3 with two home runs, a double, and 6 RBIs leading the Reds to an 8-1 victory over the reigning champs, the Los Angeles Dodgers!
You can watch both of his home runs below:
In case you are not too impressed thinking this came off of minor leaguers getting their first chance in Spring Training, don’t worry! All three of Austin Hays’ hits came off of starters for the Dodgers. Hays’ first hit was a double off of RHP Tyler Glasnow, who is in the starting rotation for the Dodgers. Hays’ first home run was a two run homer off of Dodgers new reliever Tanner Scott, who will be a top of the line reliever for them. The final hit, which was Hays’ second home run, was another 2 run shot off of veteran Blake Treinen.
A Sign of What’s to Come?
Could this be a sign of what Hays is bringing to the table as a Red? We certainly hope so. Hays, who was a former all star before missing almost all of last season due to a kidney injury, could very easily return to all star form and be the every day outfielder the Reds need. If Hays returns to form and plays like an all star, he could contribute a lot to this young Reds team. After today I, for one, am looking forward to seeing more!
