5 Things To Watch In Bengals vs Colts Preseason Game

    2

The Indianapolis Colts are heading to the jungle tomorrow after a successful joint practice from the team on Tuesday, there is a lot to look for in this preseason finale before roster cuts start, here are the 5 things I am going to keep an eye on during tomorrows game.

    1. Can Dax Hill Claim The Starting CB Battle

After having a phenomenal training camp and preseason that has blown fans expectations in the CB2 battle, Dax Hill will look to officially get the job as he’ll get one last look against the Colts starters, as he and DJ are expected to be the only starters on the Bengals to play tomorrow. We will see Dax face off against Michael Pittman, Alec Pierce, and Adonai Mitchell throughout the game.

    2. What backups will step up

We saw all the backups play last week against the Bears starters for an entire half and they showed a lot of promises through it, the only problem was the backups were exhausted and couldn’t keep up with the bears starters late or their fresh backups in the second half. With the Colts expected to play all starters for 2 quarters, you wanna see who can step up to get a final push into the 53 or a major role for this season.

    3. Will Ryan Rehkow seize his opportunity

In the middle of training camp the Bengals signed punter Ryan Rehkow to compete with Brad Robbins and Austin McNamara for the teams starting punting spot, and with the team releasing Austin before the first game and Brad Robbins getting injured in practice with a hip flexor injury, Ryan Rehkow would get his chance against the bears, who showed flashes of greatness as a punter but he had some punts that you would like to have back. Ryan is looking to show more consistency of the power he has on his leg, as he will be the only punter available.

    4. Can Tanner Hudson and Tanner McLachlan make it to the 53 together

The Bengals currently have 6 TEs on their roster, as they have signed Mike Gesicki, re-signed Drew Sample and Tanner Hudson, and drafted Erick All and Tanner Mclachlan as well as sign UDFA Cam Grandy, the expectations of the 53 man roster is that 4 TEs will make it of Mike, Drew, Tanner, Erick, and Tanner, but other people believe that all 5 of the main TEs are too good that u have to release one of them that will likely get claimed by another team, it will be interesting to see if both Tanner’s can show enough to keep 5 TEs on the roster.

    5. Who’s getting those last few spots in the roster

When you’re a team that has a Superbowl roster, the only problem you have is that sometimes you have too many good players on it and there will be a few tough choices that will come with it. We have seen many preseason/training camp standouts that have risen up the depth charts and potentially got a spot on the roster, including Jaxson Kirkland, Daijahn Anthony, Matt Lee, Maema Njongmeta, Cedric Johnson, and others look to be near locks, but now we have to look at the guys who’s flashed but are fighting for the last spot or two, or on the practice squad, Jackson Carman, Trey Hill, Shaka Heyward, Allan George, Trayveon Williams with a potential waiver wire pick up. It will be intriguing to see who shines most for these last few spots.

    Rhett Lowder is Being Promoted…again.

Once again, another promotion for the second highest ranked right handed pitcher for the Cincinnati Reds per MLB Pipeline. Rhett Lowder is being promoted to AAA Louisville.

Cincinnati Reds Rhett Lowder RHP throwing a bullpen in Spring Training

    A Summer of Dominance

Rhett Lowder has remained true to his business: Start slow, finish incredible. He got beat around real good in AA Chattanooga to start, but he has been absolutely nails since. He’s thrown a total of 102.2 IP, which would just barely nudge his career high & has participated in 21 games/starts so far. He’s registered 106 Ks compared to only 24 BBs in his first professional year. NAILS.

Considering he’s nearing a high, it’s likely he’ll only start one or two games in AAA before being shut down with anticipations of him competing for a big league roster spot. September call up is unlikely with the amount of innings he’s logged. I truly do not see AAA being more of a challenge than AA for Rhett Lowder. I’d almost consider him a 2025 rotation lock. As for 2024, as mentioned, he has thrown too many innings, and things like 40 man roster status will limit his ease of selection. Plan to see Rhett in 2025.

    Jeimer Candelario Is Injured

    0
    Jeimer Candelario Cincinnati Reds

The Cincinnati Reds, today, announced that Jeimer Candelario will be hitting the Injured List with a “Left Great Toe Fracture” – Candy had been nothing short of putrid out of the break, to keep it nice and simple.

According to AAFP, a left great toe fracture requires: Great toe fractures are treated with a short leg walking boot or cast with toe plate for two to three weeks, then a rigid-sole shoe for an additional three to four weeks. Lesser toe fractures can be treated with buddy taping and a rigid-sole shoe for four to six weeks. It sounds like Jeimer Candelario’s 2024 will likely be over, marking another disappointing Cincinnati Reds Free Agency spend.

Amed Rosario Is Joining the Reds

Amed Rosario joined the baseball club last night in Toronto, Canada & will now be making his Cincinnati Reds Debut tonight against the Blue Jays. If you read my article here you’d know he’s having a decent year with the bat, but not looking too hot with the glove.

If you were looking for something to get you interested in the Reds again, what’s better than another veteran they put in the lineup that they just recently snagged off the waiver wire? As if Hunter Renfroe & Harrison Bader weren’t fun enough last year! Alright, I joke, I joke. Go Reds.

Hunter Greene’s Newest Elbow Injury “Not a Concern”

    2

It’s Friday, August 16th, 2024. Hunter Greene goes on the Injured List, Cincinnati Reds fans only have minimal information as to ‘why’ other then “Elbow Inflamation” – when you read that line, you go into a straight sense of paranoia. At least I do… I love Hunter Greene. Who doesn’t? Well, Nick Krall is stating that it’s “not a concern.” In fact, he went even further as to say, ‘it’s better than we expected.’

    I HATE Tommy.

Hunter Greene, in 2019, underwent the needle for the dreadful Tommy John surgery already. Anytime you have a guy like Hunter Greene going on the Injured List for elbow inflammation, the absolute worst is going through your mind like I put above, ESPECIALLY when he’s having the season he’s having right now. Hunter is worth 5.5 bWAR right now, is by FAR the Cincinnati Reds’ Most Valuable Player, and was genuinely a top 3 NL Cy Young candidate, so this injury really f***ing sucks, man.

Now, as mentioned, the good news is…Nick Krall came out Sunday and said there’s not cause for concern at the moment. He’s going to go for a second opinion, and hopefully we’ll know more. At this point, it’s probably best that the Cincinnati Reds shut him down. Our season is spiraling out of control anyway.

    Shut Him Down?

I think it’s genuinely the best thing to do, especially if the elbow is that much cause for concern. I thought, for awhile, that this may have been a ‘phantom IL’ stint to avoid going extremely over his career innings, and truthfully, I still hope that. Perhaps the club is going through the motions of sending Hunter to doctors to bypass the league being on their case. It’s not legal to just throw a player on the IL due to inning limits. Hunter Greene was an All Star this year & deservedly so. Currently has a 2.83 ERA in 143.1 IP & a 3.41 FIP. He’s having an ELITE year. Regardless, get well soon, Christian Hunter Greene. I miss you already.

The Cincinnati Reds Call Up RHP Julian Aguiar

    0
    Cincinnati Reds Julian Aguiar
    Cincinnati Reds Julian Aguiar

The Cincinnati Reds, on the brisk of another August collapse, are now having to tap into their farm depth due to injuries once again. This time, they’ll call on what I labeled, “the most underrated prospect we have” in this article – RHP Julian Aguiar, a 12th round pick of the Cincinnati Reds’ in 2021. This is per C. Trent Rosencrans of The Athletic.

    Julian Aguiar Set To Debut

Julian Aguiar got promoted to AAA in mid-June, where he’s already logged 9 starts for the Louisville Bats. He’s carrying a 4.40 ERA in 47 innings pitched, with a 16:41 BB:K. His biggest issue has been consistently missing bats & he’s leaving too many pitches up in the zone. On the year, he’s sporting a 3.79 ERA between AA/AAA and has a 29:95 BB:K – this guy has real stuff.

After Lyon Richardson went on the IL yesterday, this is a no brainer spot start for Julian. It’s a little too early for Rhett Lowder, who has been absolutely dominant of late, to hit the big leagues, so tapping into our next best thing is the right thing to do here. Julian Aguiar has some serious ability, and it won’t shock me to see him stick in the rotation through 2024. He is the dreamy #4/#5 you want in your rotation. Welcome to the big leagues, Julian Aguiar!

Cincinnati Reds Claim Amed Rosario from Waivers

    0
    Amed rosario Cincinnati Reds

According to Jon Heyman, the Cincinnati Reds were the winners of the Amed Rosario sweepstakes. Amed signed with the Tampa Bay Rays late in the year, some of which to be DFA’d. After he was DFA’d the first time, the Los Angeles Dodgers claimed him, and he was just recently DFA’d once again.

    Amed’s 2024, so far..

Amed has posted 0.6 bWAR per Baseball Reference. When it comes to Fangraphs, they like him a little bit more; he’s posted 0.8 fWAR with the two teams he’s been with on the year, and has a very good 114 wRC+. How he’ll fit with the Cincinnati Reds remain unseen. Amed fits the Reds typical desires with his ability to play all over the diamond, albeit not very good at any particular position. He’s played his best in the infield.

Amed is more known for his abilities of bat to ball, he does not have a prosperous profile when it comes to power, but his xHR, should he of played each of his games in GABP, would be 4 instead of his 2 total on the season thus far. Amed is a much better fastball hitter than anything, which is something the Reds profile well in whole with. Regardless of outcome, this is a rental deal, and just another body to try to help an extremely lackluster Cincinnati offense.

We love the Reds, but they’re usually Deds. Rep them with this glorious parody t-shirt below. The best streetwear.

Sometimes we just have to laugh and call them the Deds. It doesn’t mean we don’t love our Cincinnati Reds, it’s just a t-shirt for all the parody-ers like ourselves that like to have fun, even if we suck. Maybe you just think the shirt is cool. So do we! Look at the detail in this bad boy!

The Bengals and Bears Play a Preseason Game Today- Here’s What to Know

    0

The Cincinnati Bengals have spent the week in Chicago as they prepare for a preseason matchup with the Bears on Saturday. After a intersquad practice with the Bears this week, the Bengals are not expected to play majority of their starters. As the CB battle continues, expect to see Dax Hill and DJ Turner to get some snaps.

FOX Sports- Jermaine Burton holds his hands up after a catch vs the Buccaneers.

    Key Players for Today’s Matchup

The Bears, however, will be playing their starters, including rookie QB Caleb Williams. Williams is coming off quite the debut, slinging the rock left and right, topped off by a sick screen pass as he was being sacked that went for 42 yards. As for the Bengals, expect to see QB Logan Woodside to play majority of the game as Jake Browning is still dealing with a rib injury. Rocky Lombardi could make an appearance during the 4th quarter as well. As far as other offensive positions go, look out for #62 C Matt Lee and #81 WR Jermaine Burton to get significant time with the 2’s as the rookies had a stellar debut last Saturday. Defensively, S Daijahn Anthony and MLB Maema Njongmeta are two key players that are trying to make their case for the opening 53-man roster. Njongmeta had a breakout game vs the Buccaneers and has had a stellar camp. Daijahn Anthony is also making a case for the backup safety role. Safe to say, the Bengals hit on some UDFA’s and their 7th round picks this year.

    Injury and New Pant Updates!

Other news to surface from Bengals camp this week include some key injuries and the unveiling of an all orange uniform set. RB Chris Evans and OT D’Ante Smith are both out for the year after they both tore their patellar tendon during Thursday’s practice, per ESPN. This leaves some spots for the offensive line position for guys like Jackson Carman and Cody Ford. Trent Brown is also out with back tightness but the injury isn’t considered to be serious. Basically, the OT depth is weak and some guys are going to need to step up and show out.

The Bengals also revealed that they will be wearing their orange jersey’s matched with orange pants for the first time in franchise history. This will take place during the opener against the Patriots as they “Open in orange,” a new tradition for the franchise.

Bengals WR Ja’Marr Chase poses in the new orange pants

That’s all for this week’s preseason preview. Check back for reactions and the post-game breakdown when the game ends. Enjoy the game and the rest of the summer season, real football is right around the corner!

Witt and De La Cruz: A Clash of Baseball’s Brightest Talents

In baseball, the fusion of speed and power is a rare and thrilling sight. This weekend, fans are treated to an exceptional display of this combination as Bobby Witt Jr. and Elly De La Cruz, two of the game’s most electrifying players, go head-to-head.

Witt has been putting up remarkable numbers that could see him contend for the American League MVP, challenging even the likes of Aaron Judge. On the flip side, De La Cruz is making a compelling case for National League MVP honors. The 22-year-old shortstop is currently hitting .263 with a .346 on-base percentage and a .493 slugging percentage, along with 21 home runs and an impressive 59 stolen bases, leading all of baseball. Notably, De La Cruz shares the National League lead in fWAR with Shohei Ohtani at 5.7. And he’s only at the beginning of his career.

Pitching Prowess Highlights Reds’ Recent Surge

The Cincinnati Reds’ pitching staff has demonstrated exceptional dominance in their recent series against the St. Louis Cardinals. In their latest clash, the Reds triumphed with a decisive 9-2 win. Jonathan India led the charge offensively, delivering a stellar performance with two home runs and four RBIs. On the season, the Reds are averaging 4.88 runs per game, while their pitchers have restricted opponents to just 4.03 runs per game.

In terms of rankings, the Reds’ offense is positioned 14th in the league, but their pitching excellence shines through with a 5th-place ranking. Elly De La Cruz has been a standout performer, boasting 21 home runs and 52 RBIs to date. Scheduled to take the mound for the Reds is Nick Martinez, who holds a 6-5 record and a solid 3.16 ERA. Notably, Martinez has been in outstanding form recently, having pitched 12 innings with just five hits allowed and no earned runs.

Critical Wins Needed for Royals’ Wild-Card Push

The Kansas City Royals are in a fierce battle for a wild-card berth and must secure victories to keep their playoff hopes alive. Their recent series against the Minnesota Twins saw them come up short in two of three games. However, their pitching staff delivered a commendable performance in the final matchup, yielding just one run en route to a three-run victory. Cole Ragans was particularly impressive, pitching seven innings with only five hits allowed and a single run conceded.

Currently, the Royals are averaging 4.77 runs per game, while their pitching staff has allowed 4.07 runs per game. Offensively, the Royals rank 11th in the league, and their pitching holds a respectable 6th-place ranking. On the mound for the Royals in their upcoming game will be Michael Lorenzen, who carries a 5-6 record and a 3.79 ERA. Lorenzen’s most recent outing against the St. Louis Cardinals saw him last just 4.1 innings, giving up six hits and three runs.

Cincinnati Bengals Extend K Evan McPherson 3 years

    0
    Cincinnati Bengals Evan McPherson

Title says it all. Mike Garafolo of NFL Network is reporting that the Cincinnati Bengals have extended K Evan McPherson. McPherson is a renowned name in Bengals fandom, being the staple to help the Bengals advance to the Super Bowl for the first time since the 80s. We all know Money Mac and that name reigns true.

    The Deal

Mike reported that the Bengals star kicker will get a new deal worth $16,000,000 total. The deal will pay him $10,000,000 new money up front, which is a record. Is it safe to say…Ja’Marr Chase, you’re next? Money Mike has the Brinks truck still backed up!

    Evan McPherson’s Previous Contract

Evan was set to make $1,140,928 in 2024 before he signed this deal. Evan McPherson was a 5th round pick of Cincinnati’s in 2019. He’s just 25 years old. The Bengals will retain him through 2028’s season now, where he’ll be just 29 years old at kickoff.

    Bengals and Bears Practice Highlights

    1

The Bengals traveled to Chicago to take on the Bears in an intersquad practice this afternoon. In what was a rainy day in the windy city, let’s take a look at some of the events that transpired!

It was a rough day for QB Joe Burrow and the offense. Burrow reportedly threw 3 interceptions according to senior Pro Football Network beat writer Jay Morrison. In the same post, Morrison also states that the offense struggled with catching the football, highlighting that Tee Higgins had 4 drops.

However, it wasn’t all bad. Trey Hendrickson came hot off the edge in an 11v11 period and sacked Caleb Williams, beating tight end Cole Kmet in the process. Burrow threw a tight spiral to WR Trent Irwin for a touchdown as he lined up in the slot, a position we’re watching closely during camp, during a redzone period. He also threw a wobbler to WR Tee Higgins for a touchdown. Chase Brown scored a rushing touchdown in the same portion as he makes his case for the starting running back position.

A couple of injuries transpired at the practice today as well. 4th year OT D’Ante Smith and RB Chris Evans both were transported off the field, via a cart, and both had air casts. Cody Ford had to sub in at RT as Trent Brown had some lower back tightness. The OT depth we once thought was strong is quickly fading. Although, Trent Brown’s injury is not anything too serious and he should be back when practices resume next week.

The Bengals will be back this weekend as they face off against the Bears on Saturday at 1pm. The Bengals will not be playing any starters as they got a lot of work in today. It will be QB Logan Woodside taking the start as Jake Browning recovers from a rib injury. Expect to see Rocky Lombardi, a UDFA out of Northern Illinois, to make his debut as well.
