One thing I’d like to see the #Reds do, although not necessary:
Begin transitioning Lyon Richardson into a high leverage reliever.
We have a surplus of starters, and this guy has the moxie, and arsenal to handle that role.
His slider improved, curveball is swell, and his changeup is a perfect set up pitch to change eye levels on batters with his rising fastball.
This kid is an extremely slept on piece of the Reds that doesn’t get much attention because he was thrown to the wolves in ’23, simply because we had so many guys injured, and he was already on the 40 man. It’s easy to forget he didn’t pitch at all in ’22 due to TJ, and him in a relief role would also aid in protecting him with health.
To reiterate, not necessary, and there’s nothing wrong with keeping him as a starter, I’m really high on him there as well, but I really think he could be a huge piece to our bullpen, and for him, potentially make him even more money.
The best comparison for him is Michael Lorenzen. Lyon, like Mike, was a two way player out of the draft.
