    Reds Are Making Moves!

    Benji - Men's Personal Carespot_img

The Reds are making noise today! The Cincinnati Reds announced three moves today. The first being earlier today with the announcement of the return of LHP Wade Miley on a minor league deal, the second move being a trade with the San Francisco Giants for LHP Taylor Rogers, and for the third move they signed back Ian Gibaut on a minor league deal! All of these moves deepen the Reds pitching depth!

    New Reliever Taylor Rogers

Taylor Rogers is a 34 year old LHP reliever. He will most likely fit into that top end of the bullpen arms the Reds currently have. Rogers had an excellent season last year posting a 2.40 ERA in 60 IP for the Giants. Rogers has a good career ERA as well, posting a 3.34 ERA over a career of 9 years in professional baseball. Taylor Rogers brings a great arm to the Reds bullpen, which could always use more arms.

What the Reds Gave Up In the Trade

The Reds traded RHP Braxton Roxby to the Giants for Taylor Rogers. Braxton Roxby is a 25 year old pitcher in AA Chattanooga. Last year, Roxby did not have a great season posting a 5.21 ERA over 48.1 IP. Although he had a much better year in 2023 with Dayton, posting a 2.96 ERA over 54.2 IP. I do not think Roxby is someone the Reds should miss that much with him being a bit inconsistent. Now will the Giants turn him into something? Only time will tell. This is a great trade for the Redlegs, especially considering the fact that the Giants sent over $6 million to cover half of Rogers contract. That means the Reds will be paying Rogers $6 million next year instead of $12 million, which is great for a quality arm like his.

    The Return of Wade Miley

Earlier today the Reds signed back LHP Wade Miley on a 1 year minor league deal. Miley will earn $2.5 million on a pro-rated MLB contract with 1,000 dollars per inning maxing out at a total of $4 million with a June 1st opt-out. Miley is still recovering from Tommy John surgery, which he got early last season but is expected to return in mid-May. This move is good for the Reds as it gives them a veteran presence for the pitchers and he is familiar with the team. Miley has a career 4.07 ERA over 14 professional seasons, two of those with the Reds. This deal is a very low risk deal and is structured in a way that ensures it does not hurt us if he can not play.

    The Return of Ian Gibaut

In addition, it was just announced that the Reds are retaining RHP Ian Gibaut on a minor league deal with an invite to spring training. This move is good for the Reds as it brings back someone that is very familiar with this team and has contributed a lot to the team over the past few years. Gibaut was injured for almost all of last season, only pitching in 2 innings, so hopefully he has returned to good health. When healthy, Gibaut has shown to be a consistent pitcher with a 3.77 ERA over 3 seasons with the Reds. If he makes the team or not, this is another good deal for the Reds.

    Big Day for The Reds

All of these moves following the signing of OF Austin Hays yesterday is quite surprising as I had said they could be done for the rest of the offseason. However, Krall and the rest of the front office are keeping busy making the team better for the 2025 season. I believe all of these moves are great and will help the team a lot. What do you think about the Reds busy day?
