Rumors: Devin Williams Has Met With Reds

Bob Nightengale of USA Today posted this evening in his article that the Cincinnati Reds had already met with All Star Closer/Relief Pitcher, Devin Williams. This comes as no surprise, as there’s genuine history between Devin and Reds Pitching Coordinator, Derek Johnson. Devin Williams is hitting free agency for the first time and is expected to land somewhere on a ‘prove it deal.’

Devin Williams Has Terrorized The Reds

Over the history of Devin Williams career, he has absolutely abused and obliterated the Cincinnati Reds, especially in his Brewers tenure. Over his career against the Reds, he’s holding them to a .098/.189/.143/.332 slash line – folks…genuine abuse. As if you haven’t been sick enough by it, here’s some more: in 127 PAs, he has struckout Reds batters 64 times. SIXTY FOUR TIMES. I think the strategic gain here is that..if the Reds add Devin Williams, they may win some more games, simply not ever having to face him anymore!

What is Devin Williams Projected To Make?

Devin Williams is currently projected to make a smaller deal as he only passed by with -0.3 bWAR last season which was a career worst by far. Under the hood, however, he looked perfectly fine, and in his own words, his “stuff” was as good as it has always been in his career. Devin is expected to sign for one year on a prove it deal, many outlets like MLBTradeRumors projecting him to ink on a 1 year/$10,000,000 deal.

It’s known, through Bob’s article today, that Devin has a big preference to stay in the midwest. He’s a St. Louis area native, though the Cardinals aren’t really trying, so the Cincinnati area is a great second up in that regard. What’s more midwest than Cincinnati? Well, quite a few cities, but Devin will and does have a lot of genuine interest in the Reds. Like we wrote, Devin Williams makes a whole lot of sense for the Reds. They’re trying to get better in the bullpen, and what better way to do such than grabbing one of the top arms.
