    Recap: Reds vs. Angels 08/18/25

Singer goes 6 innings 1 ER, Lux hits 2-run HR in Reds win

Trying to build off the walkoff win against the Brewers yesterday, Cincinnati turns to Brady Singer (10-9 4.31 ERA) The Angels counter with Victor Mederos (0-0 5.63 ERA) making his second major league start. The Reds are looking to make up .5 game against the idle Mets in the WC race.

    2-0 Cincinnati (Top 1st)

It was a fast start for the Reds on the west coast! TJ Friedl singled to lead off the game before Gavin Lux smashed a 2-run HR to give Cincy a 2-0 lead. The Reds put more pressure on Mederos, getting runners on 1st and 3rd before Mederos was able to escape trouble.

    2-1 Cincinnati (Bottom 1st)

Los Angeles would cut the lead in half after a couple hits from the top of the Angel lineup. Nolan Schanuel singled, Mike Trout worked a walk and Taylor Ward doubled down the RF line to make it 1-0. Spencer Steer then made a great play to double off Neto on a line drive from Yoan Moncada to get out of trouble.

    3-1 Cincinnati (Top 5th)

After a couple quick innings, highlighted by a couple Ke’Bryan Hayes webgems, Elly De La Cruz got the Reds rolling again. He smoked a triple down the RF line to leadoff the top of the 5th. Austin Hays made LA pay immediately with a sac fly to RF to make it 3-1. Trying to add to the lead, Noelvi Marte, Spencer Steer and Jose Trevino would all single to load the bases. However, consecutive popups from Hayes and Matt McLain would strand all three.

    4-1 Cincinnati (Top 8th)

McLain would get a little revenge in the 8th, driving in Hayes on a sac fly. McLain was able to do so because of some suspect defense in CF by Luis Rengifo, who misplayed a Hayes ball hit right to him allowing Hayes a leadoff triple.

    4-1 Cincinnati (Final)

It was a tale of two different defensive nights on Monday night. The Reds made several highlight plays while the Angels made several critical gaffes. Ke’Bryan Hayes was the standout, making 2 amazing plays at 3B, but several other Reds had key plays to stop Angel rallies. Scott Barlow came in and got a four out save, and the Reds made it two wins in a row. They climb up to just a single game back of the Mets and keep some momentum from the Milwaukee win.

Win: Brady Singer (11-9 4.18 ERA)

Loss: Victor Mederos (0-1 5.54 ERA)

    Save: Scott Barlow (Save #1)
