Reds Hunter Greene trade rumors

Reds camp was going too good two weeks in, you guys knew that. Well, not so much anymore. There’s news out currently stating that Hunter Greene is being shut down and is going to be seen by Timothy Kremchek and Neal ElAttrache. This spells…absolute disaster. Morning Update As of 3/4/2026 at 11:30AM

BREATHE FRESH AIR: Hunter Greene told media that there is NO UCL Damage, he is just sore at the moment. The Reds will take their sweet time and make sure he’s good to go before he resumes throwing. As of now, it’ll be Tuesday, per Charlie Goldsmith. I have serious reserves about that happening. He has yet to see both doctors for next wave of advice, but if Hunter is saying there’s no UCL damage, that’s significant.

Since he’s already had a TJ, there’s a great chance there’s some scarring present which could lead to discomfort. He told media that he’s had this going on since the end of the season, and pitched through it due to playoff push. Keep saying some prayers.

From Charlie Goldsmith’s Chalkboard Substack:

Any long-term concern? Is the UCL OK?

”It’s completely clean. I just got stuff floated around. I’ve got to see how we’re going to manage that.” – This tells me they’ll do some work on it, and he’ll end up missing time. He’s already had injections and didn’t respond to them.

Hunter Greene To Be Evaluated For 2nd Tommy John

This, if news is confirmed that he has a torn UCL, which is where we’re trending, would be Hunter Greene‘s second Tommy John surgery. The first was also performed by Neal ElAttrache back in 2019. Anytime the team is associating both doctors, it spells absolute doom. Of course, it isn’t confirmed, but folks, we’ve been around long enough to know where this goes from here.

Reds Will Likely Be Without Their ACE

As mentioned above, the Reds will likely be without their number one starting pitcher. It’s looking more and more smart that they held onto their arms. Nick Krall was on with John Sadak and The Cowboy on Monday where he and the guys were talking about ‘good problems’ to have – having an abundancy of talents in the starting rotation was one that was talked about. Cowboy said immediately, “You better knock on wood!” and voila, wouldn’t you know it, the Cincinnati Reds appear to be losing their number one starter for the year, and maybe longer.

Immediately what comes to mind is Rhett Lowder getting his chance at it, he has looked real good in Spring Training thus far, but even he has durability concerns from my end. He has been dealing with shoulder problems some of which he was shut down for in 2025, and he seems to really be laboring even though his velocities are still there as is his stuff, so he’s one we need to watch as well.

How Will The Reds Manage Not Having Hunter Greene?

The answer is simple: The depth is there for this team to still be really good, but this is like telling the United States they can’t utilize their F35’s. It’s a serious, serious loss. A tremendous competitivity loss. Hunter Greene had a 2.76 ERA in 19 games in 2025 posting 4.4 bWAR and one of the most insane performances against the Cubs to keep the Reds alive in the postseason race.

For now, let’s pray that this is precautionary. I think I’ve made it clear enough that it isn’t… anytime they schedule a back to back visit with the two top dogs, it isn’t good. He has yet to have an MRI, so let’s just hope it’s sprained. We need Hunter Greene like we need oxygen.
