It is now rumored that Byron Buxton of the Minnesota Twins would waive his no trade clause if the Twins keep selling pieces off and not trying to compete, this came out yesterday in an article by the Twins beat reporter. There isn’t a more perfect player for the Cincinnati Reds out there. Yes, it’d carry a lot of risk. What doesn’t in life? Subscribe to our Newsletter by using the popup or the form below!

Byron Buxton – The Perfect Piece
Byron Buxton is arguably the most underrated player in the Major Leagues. Take all things considered, and he truly is. He’s always forgotten about because the Twins haven’t really been too relevant of late and it’s not a huge market, but more importantly, he’s spent a whole lot of time on the Injured List – enter the “risk” I mention above. Who doesn’t love a good rumor? Visit our Hub for more. He’s definitely risky, but come on man, look at that baseball reference page. He’s an absolute dawg. Worth the risk. Every bit of the risk.
Now, it’s not a guarantee that he’ll be available. It sounds like he let his camp know that he’s kicking the bucket a bit – he is loyal to the soil, has been, has gone into interviews and said as much, and the people of Minnesota love him, rightfully so. The Cincinnati Reds faithful will also love him, maybe more, because he’s the exact player we adore every summer. Plays hard as can be, which is half the reason he’s injured all the time, is loyal as hell, loves winning, and hits tanks. Yep, everything we are obsessed with.
Buxton’s Salary And How It Fits The Reds
Buxton signed one of the more friendly deals, likely awarding the fact that he hasn’t been able to stay healthy a lot of the seasons he’s played, and his $ fits the Reds perfectly. He will make:
- 2026: $15,142,857
- 2027: $15,142,857
- 2028: $15,142,858
That means Buxton will total out at $45,428,571.00 over the next 3 years, comfortably fitting the Cincinnati Reds budget (and a lot of other teams, too.) He will turn 32 in December so he’s still got a lot of baseball ahead of him.
If the Twins make Buxton available, keep in mind, it’s at his expense – he has a FULL no trade clause and hasn’t once mentioned Cincinnati as a desired area, and to be honest, the article mentioned that he would only waive it for a team trying to win, and are the Reds really trying to do that? Doesn’t feel like it a whole lot of the time, but one things certain: Byron Buxton would make this team a whole lot better.
What Would It Cost
Per MLB Trade Simulator, whose algorithm has truly been rather spot on with a lot of trade values lately, Buxton only has a 19.1 value. Usually I wouldn’t pay mind to this website but I really do think it’s became a lot better market wise. With that number known, the Reds have plenty of firepower to land Buxton, should he become available.
I would easily give up any prospect the Twins wanted, and as we know, the Reds’ Krall has a great working relationship with the Twins brass & they owe us one for the fleecing they did to Krall for Sonny Gray. Bring Byron Buxton home.
