The Cincinnati Reds have been named in the lawsuit involving Emmanuel Clase when it comes to fixing MLB outcomes (sports betting) in Article I under relevant individuals and entities. So what does this mean, were the Reds part of these fixings? We’ll break it down. Subscribe to our Newsletter by using the popup or the form below!

Why The Reds Are Labeled
The Reds being labeled in this lawsuit could mean a zillion different things. One, it could mean that they were a team that the result happened against. Two, it could mean that they took part in the fixings (unlikely.) Three, it means that they also have players under investigation for fixing results (unlikely.) Four, and the most likely outcome – they could just be a label in the lawsuit.

What Was Emmanuel Clase Doing?
He was working alongside books, and sometimes, private clients to fix outcomes of the game. He was primarily fixing pitch types. Better explained, was it a ball or a strike? Bettors would bet “Ball” and Clase would intentionally throw a ball. I can cite several times against the Reds alone where he would intentionally throw at the head of a player, or in some cases, even spike the ball in the ground.
This below video isn’t a clear case of his fixing, but he was known to be wild as can be in certain games, and very sporadically… it seemed to always happen against the Reds which is what was weird. Here’s Jonathan India (In a KC Royals uniform now, of course) getting hit in the head by Clase. Blake Dunn was also a victim of Clase’s wildness, getting hit in the head and spending some time on IL.
The Reds & Guardians Discussed Packages For Clase
Late in 2023’s offseason, the Cincinnati Reds and Cleveland Guardians engaged in trade talks that would send Emmanuel Clase to the Reds. The Reds never understood the Guardians demands talent wise, as they wanted a top 100 prospect and MLB player who was not named deliberately, but ask was known. Thank the baseball gods it never went through, now…
