April 7th update:
Robbie Grossman is now on the Chicago White Sox Major league roster. They’re 1-8. He signed an MiLB deal is making the minimum currently. The Reds GM Nick Krall did not address the LHP issue in any capacity, Grossman would’ve been a great get for this Reds organization. An article will come out later on who the Reds could potentially trade for to bridge a huge issue. Subscribe for more.
I know Nick Krall mentioned being done, but Brad Meador kind’ve stepped over that and said ‘if something comes up, we’ll look into it…’
Robbie Grossman.
I think this #Reds roster needs one more guy that can light LHP up and that’s done it ~consistently~
In ’23: .309/.416/.536/.953 in 137 PAs against LHP
Career: .282/.381/.426/.808 in 1219 PAs against LHP
This cat could really bridge a gap in the roster, in my opinion.
With Gallo, a predominant DH, getting 1/$5M from a noncontender, I’d imagine a market of something along the lines of 1/$3.5-5m for Grossman, maybe add a team option in the next year.
The reality is, I’d much rather proven success on this roster than ?’s. I’d put him on the roster over Barrero. I REALLY like Fairchild and he’s a better defender and quicker which is important, but the bat lacks, I’d argue putting him on the roster over he as well (I would really like to retain him somehow, however)
With the Reds set, just in the division, to face an abundance of LHPs like:
CHC: Steele, Imanaga
STL: Rom, Thompson, Liberatore
PIT: Gonzales, Falter, Perez
MIL: Miley, Gasser
That’s a LOT of LHP starting pitching, and the ugly here is that 3 of our daily, proven OFers, Fraley, Benson, & Fairchild, were not great against LHP. Friedl had a great year against them and I don’t see him slowing down, but the others are nonexistent.
I think this’d of been a sure thing to happen had the Reds dealt India, but with that not happening anytime soon, it may be a little iffy getting Grossman playing time.
India has never been good against LHP outside of his rookie year, either.
Regardless, it’s worth exploring because his stick plays FOR SURE at GABP.
