In yesterday’s newest Cincinnati Bengals colossal disappointment, Ja’Marr Chase, a dude known not only for his elite talent, but field mannerisms, too…completely lost his cool. He ended up spitting in Jalen Ramsey’s face, although Ramsey caught the worst of the in-game wrath. Both players will likely face a suspension, per Adam Schefter’s X account, but for now, it’s Ja’Marr Chase getting a one game suspension.
Ja’Marr Chase Loses His Cool
Ja’marr, as mentioned above, is known for his ‘cool’ – swag, mannerisms, et al. Yesterday, he didn’t have it. He was locked down for the majority of the game, the Bengals offense, like it always does out of a bye, stalled again and was disappointing. On top of that, it seemed like they had zero interest in using the air at all. It was easy to see why Ja’Marr was so unhappy yesterday.
The Steelers have built a brand, a consistent one at that, when it comes to chippy and chirpiness. Jalen Ramsey got a late hit that wasn’t flagged on Ja’Marr early on in the game which started a whole lot of the shenanigans we saw on the field. Several plays later, we saw Ja’Marr jawing at Joey Porter Jr, who if you’re a Bengals fan, you naturally have a distaste for.
Suspension Likelihood For Ja’Marr Chase
The last time a player was caught spitting on the other the in-game disciplinary action was considered enough, per the NFL, however…Ja’Marr finds himself in a different situation. Jalen Ramsey was the one who got the second personal foul call and was disqualified from the game. Ja’Marr Chase remained in the game. This likely means that he’ll end up serving a one game suspension, potentially more. Edit: Confirmed that Ja’Marr Chase will serve a one game suspension effectively immediately. This spitting stuff is disgusting, and I can imagine the NFL bringing the hammer down. Let’s be real, the Bengals are dreadful, it’d do Ja’Marr a favor, even if Joe Burrow is coming back.
It’s unclear if Jalen Ramsey will be suspended for throwing a punch, historically, physical altercations usually come with a game suspension, but since he was thrown out of the game yesterday and has good reason for the punch, I can see them letting him off with just a fine. Ramsey is a repeat offender, however, so we’ll see.
