Bengals announced that WR Jermaine Burton will miss another game due to an ‘illness’ – fair to say that it’s mental illness. The Bengals drafted Burton in the third round of the 2024 draft. Reports were positive on Burton this week, only to be let down right at the 12th hour. Burton joins several prominent Bengals on the IL this week, Joe Burrow included. Burton’s On Final Chances
At this point, Mike Brown is getting tired of even paying Jermaine Burton. He has been essentially useless since putting together a few promising games last year and having a pretty good camp. He hasn’t played a single snap in 2025 and that trend has continued.
Fans have started calling out the Bengals bluff as well – Burton was posting stories on Instagram two weekends ago in Dallas, TX while the team was preparing to take on the Jets, many fans commented on this when the team announced the injury report on Saturday.
What Purpose Does Carrying Him On The 53 Serve?
At this point in Burton’s career, it’s a total wash. There is zero point to continue keeping him on the 53 man roster. The Bengals have cut a lot of talented receivers in years past and continue rostering a grown man that can’t get his act together is becoming embarrassing, not only negligent.
Mike Brown has always, always, always had a soft spot for the dudes who couldn’t get their ‘ish together. Pacman Jones… the list goes on. It’s respectable, admirable, and you know what, a lot of times…it works in his favor, but at some point, the string has to be cut and those types of dudes need to get out of town. At least guys like Pacman Jones would show up and play on Sundays.
Jermaine Burton Needs Prayers
Clearly this is what appears to be a broken man, and it is leaking onto his professional career, too. I’m not insisting the Bengals get rid of him, but that’s the water we’re trekking here. I wish him the absolute best and keep him in my prayers, but it’s time to let bygones be bygones. Get rid of him. Best of luck in Las Vegas.
Let’s just hope he can walk away from football with a little bit of the money he has earned from it. I haven’t seen any photos of him sitting at a slot machine at the casino by himself in awhile, so that’s hopefully a good start.
