Another day, another Reds injury to their starting pitching which came into the year nice and stocked up. Not so much anymore. Chase Petty was supposed to be filling in for Rhett Lowder, now there’s a chance he may also hit the IL.

Chase Petty Exits Start Early

Before he came up to the Reds once again to make a spotstart against the Cubs, Petty left his previous start in early April with a fingernail issue. That same issue appears to be back, as he left again yesterday in Louisville’s start against the Nashville Sounds where he suffered 6 hits given up with 3 walks, 3 ER, and only 1 K, a drastic change from his start in Chicago last week, signaling a definitive injury.

Rhett Lowder and Reds SP Depth Injuries

Rhett Lowder is one we need to worry about. An MRI showed no structural damage, ok great, but he has spent a whole season on the IL with shoulder and oblique issues and now he’s back on the IL again. He has walked a lot of batters again but in classic Rhett fashion has been able to limit damage up until Chicago. I will remain worried about him even if the MRI shows no structural damage because my eyes don’t deceive me. He hasn’t looked healthy.
